Q1) How did Abdul kalam earn his ‘first wages’? How
did he feel at that time?
Ans1) During second Word war in 1939, India was forced to join the Allied
Forces. Because of this a state of emergency was declared and the trains halt
at Rameswaram
station was suspended. The newspaper also came by the train.
Now their bundles had to be thrown out from the moving train between Rameswaram
and Dhanuskodi. Abdul kalam’s cousin was a newspaper distributor Rameswaram. Now
he needed a helping hand to collect the bundles. He found Abdul Kalam suitable
for this job. Abdul Kalam accepted the job earn his ‘First wage’. He felt very
proud on earning his own money for the first time.
Q2) What happened in the classroom when the new
teacher came in the classroom? How did Lakshmana Sastry solve the problem?
Ans2 The new teacher was quite orthodox in his outlook. He
could not tolerate that Abdul Kalam who was a Muslim boy sitting with a Hindu
Brahmin boy Ramanadha Sastry. He forced Abdul to sit in the last. With heavy
heart, he obeyed his teacher. Ramanadha Sastry was also feeling sad. They went
home and told about this incident to their parents. Ramanadha Sastry’s father
was a temple priest at Rameswaram. He called the teacher and asked him not to
spread inequality and communal intolerance in the minds of innocent children.
He strictly told him to either apologize or quit the school and the island. The
teacher realized his mistake and asked forgiveness.
