Ans1) Santosh was born in affluent land owners’ family in a small village of Rewari district in Haryana. She wore shorts while the girls of the village wore traditional Indian dresses. Her parents were quite traditional and always followed prevailing custom. But she began to live on her own terms from the childhood. She refused to marry at early age. She decided to get proper education first. She got admission in Delhi school. Her parents were reluctant to send her. She threatened that she would earn by working part time. So by being a rebel she managed to choose her path and reach the top.

Ans2) Santosh went to Jaipur for higher studies after finishing high school. She got admission in Maharani college. She got a room in Kasturba Hostel which faced the Aravalli hills. She used to see the villagers going up the hill and disappeared. This aroused her curiosity about the mountains. One day Santosh went near the hills. But that day no villager was there. She saw some climbers. They encouraged her to take to climbing. Slowly her interest in climbing rose. In the mean time she saved money and took admission in Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi’s.

He wanted to kill him and live as Gerrand to dodge the police. But Gerrard outwitted the intruder. He told him that he was also a murderer and the police might come anytime. Ans1) Kathmandu is beautiful, simple and religious city. It is important both as a religious place and a centre of tourism. It has narrow and busy streets with small shrines with flower adorned deities. One can see the streets hawkers of post cards, shop selling. western cosmetics, film rolls and chocolate or copper utensils and Nepalese antiques. Film song blare out from radios, car horn sounds, bicycle bells  ring, stray cows low, vendors shout out theirs wares. There is Pashupatinath temple meant only for Hindus. Around this temple there is atmosphere chaos. On the other hand the Buddhist Shrine- Baudhnath  Stupa is a place of serenity.. All these things make it the attraction point of tourists.

Ans2) Both temples Pashupatinath temple and Baudhnath Stupa are situated in Kathmandhu. Pashupatinath temple is a holy place of Hindus. It is always crowded. The worshippers come in large numbers to pray and worship the deity on the outer edge. One has to face elbowing and jostling. It has white dome. It is ringed by a road. There are many small shops selling belts, bags, Tibetan prints and silver jewelry. The Great throng of public makes it the special place on earth. On the other hand Baudhnath Stupa is very calm place. It is one of the important shrines of the Buddhists. The place presents a serene atmosphere.

She cooked a variety of dishes for him. He also performed many playful tricks which give pleasure to her. They enjoyed each other’s company. When bear grew big, he was dangerous for the children in the house. Author decided to send him to the zoo. His departure was very painful for the author’s wife. Finally she asked her husband to visit Baba in the zoo. They both felt relieved on meeting. They spend many hours together. So we can say “Love is Mutual’.

Ans2) The bear, Bruno, was very dear to the author’s wife. They spent many hours together and love each others company. But when he had grown very big and heavy, he was dangerous. He was very playful and mischievous. There were small children of the tenants’ family. So they had to chain him most of the time. The author felt that he was depriving Bruno of his natural freedom. So he decided to send him to a zoo. But his wife could not bear his separation. The author consoled her for three months, but at last he took her to the zoo. On seeing her Baba howled with happiness. They spend many hours together. She wanted to take him back to home. She requested the superintendent who allowed her.

Ans1)Among the three Jerome was the best packer. He had a good experience of packing. He knew a better how to order the things and avoid possible loss. He was proud of his packing skills. He thought that he knew more about it than any other person living. On the other hand both George and Harris were the worst packers. They were careless and knew nothing about the skill of packing. They strapped the bag many times and forgot to put in one thing or the thing. Then they have to reopen the bag again. Harris packed the strawberry jam at the top of a tomato and squashed it. They broke the cup also. They spoiled everything.

Q2) How did Montmorency ‘contribute’ to the packing?
Ans2) Montmorency was a naughty dog. He contributed a lot in the process of packing. His day was wasteful if he did not disturb any work and poked his nose in troubled area. He mad the people mad. During the packing, he came and sat down on the things to be packed. He made sure whenever Harris or George extend their hand for anything, they got wet nose of Montmorency. He pretended lemons for the rats and chased them throughout the room.  He got into the hamper and spoiled three lemons to be rats. He puts his legs into the jam. He was a perfect nuisance.

Ans3) ‘Packing’ is a humorous story. There are many incidents in the support of this. Three instances among them are-
1) After labouring for hours, the author finally packs the bag, shuts and straps when he is reminded by his friend Harris. “Aren’t you going to put the boots in?” he laughs. He doesn’t say a thing, until the bag is all shut and strapped.

2) George puts the butter down on a chair and Harris sits down on it. it sticks to him and they keep looking for it all over the room. Finally they find it sticking to Harris’ back. They get it off and repack it.

3) Montmorency , their dog, first puts his leg into the jam , then worries the tea spoons and then pretends the lemons for rats and goes into the hamper and kills three of them before Harris lands him with the frying pan.

Abdul kalam’s cousin was a newspaper distributor Rameswaram. Now he needed a helping hand to collect the bundles. He found Abdul Kalam suitable for this job. Abdul Kalam accepted the job earn his ‘First wage’. He felt very proud on earning his own money for the first time.

Ans2 The new teacher was quite orthodox in his outlook. He could not tolerate that Abdul Kalam who was a Muslim boy sitting with a Hindu Brahmin boy Ramanadha Sastry. He forced Abdul to sit in the last. With heavy heart, he obeyed his teacher. Ramanadha Sastry was also feeling sad. They went home and told about this incident to their parents. Ramanadha Sastry’s father was a temple priest at Rameswaram. He called the teacher and asked him not to spread inequality and communal intolerance in the minds of innocent children. He strictly told him to either apologize or quit the school and the island. The teacher realized his mistake and asked forgiveness.
