Q) Lomov did not like natalya because of her quarrelsome
nature. Then why did he want to marry her?
Ans) Lomov and
Chubukovs were neighbours for long period. They knew each other very well. They
were familiar with each others habits, nature and behavior. Lomov did not like Natalya
because of her quarrelsome nature. But he was ready to marry her because of
many selfish reasons.
Firstly he thought that he was over aged. He was 35 years
old and if he looked for an ideal girl or real love he wouldn't get married.
secondly he was physically unsound. So he wanted to settle down as soon as
possible. He also knew that Natalya was good for housekeeping work. This would
help him in maintaining his large property. Moreover if he got married
with Natalya the property of two
neighbors will be combined and Lomov would be the sole owner. He had
materialistic nature and all these reasons pushed him to marry a girl Natalya whom
he did not like.
Q) Natalya, her father and Lomov were ill tempered. They
quarrelled on petty issues. What are the harms of anger? Suggest some ways to keep
our cool in even the worst of the situations.
Ans) Natalya, her father and Lomov were short tempered. They
had irritating nature. They quarrelled on petty issues. Lomov and Natalya argued on Oxen Meadows ownership.
Her father also got involved in the fight. After Sometime they quarrelled on
the superiority of their dogs. Irritation and anger can’t do any good. Anger is
always harmful. One must learn how to manage and control the anger.
Anger drains our energy. A mature person must ponder upon
the things that lead him to anger. It might be some words, incidents, persons
or situations that trigger our anger. We must also think of the reasons
associated with these things that cause sprout of anger in us. We must work at
this level. Meditation can help. Yet another method is autosuggestion. We can
suggest or train our subconscious mind and prepare it to tackle our anger.
Maturity means avoiding the irrelevant petty issues and
focusing on the important things only. Accepting our situation and faith in God
will also help.
