Q1) Why were travellers attracted towards India?
Ans) In the ancient time India was
famous for its culture, wealth, religion, art, architect and educational
practices. Our education system was known for the openness, humanity, all-round-development
of students and higher standards of teachers. Many travellers were attracted
towards India because of this fame.
Q2) What were the sources of the ancient education system?
Ans) There was wide range of sources
in ancient education system of India. Prominent among them were
(i) Vedas, Upanishads, Brahmanas and
Dharamsutras.
(ii) Writings of Aryabhatt, Panini,
Katyayana and Patanjali.
(iii)Medical treatises of the Charak
and Sushruta.
(iv) Various Shastras and Kavyas.
Q3) What were the features of education system in Ancient India?
Ans) Education system in ancient
India had many important features. There was a focus on all-round-development
of the students. Work was done for the physical, intellectual, emotional, and
spiritual growth. Role of teacher is crucial. He was the central point of whole
education system. Teachers of that time set a high standard of education.
Education was free and accessible to all irrespective of financial status of
the students. Society paid for the education.
Q4) What was the role of guru in pupil’s life?
Ans) Role of Guru is very crucial in
the life of pupils. They spent many years of their life in the ashram with
their guru. They got education of all spheres of life under the supervision of
the guru. They are closely attached to and influenced by the guru. The Guru and
his teachings became an integral part of their life.

Ans) Nuns and monks received their
education in the Vihars/ monasteries. These were set up for them to meditate,
debate and discuss with learned for their quest for knowledge. Around these
vihars, other educational centers of higher learning developed that attracted
persons from all over the World.
Q2) What is Panini known for?
Ans) Panini was known for his work in
the field of Grammar. He was expert in language and grammar and authored one of
the greatest woks on grammar called ‘Ashtadhyayi’.
Q3) What university did Xiang Zang and I-Qing study at?
Ans) Xiang Zang and I-Qing studied at
the Nalanda University which was situated at present day Rajgir, Bihar. Xiang
Zang took admission for learning ‘yogashastra’.
Q4)How did society help in the education of students?
Ans) In ancient India education was
considered such a sacred work that nothing was charged from the students. All
the education delivering places like temples, vihars, Pathshala, gurukuls, ashrams,
and universities received donations from the king or affluent persons of the
society. This donation was utilized for smooth functioning of the institutions.
